Our FPC cables for connecting VC MIPI Cameras to all processor boards are available in four standard lengths, with 2 or four data lanes and GPIO lines for trigger, sync and strobe. We also offer MIPI CSI-2 camera cables with an external trigger input/flash output, as well as custom variants.

1. Choosing the right cable

MIPI CSI-2 interfaces vary depending on the processor board. 22-pin connections are common, but there are also 15-pin and 24-pin variants. VC offers the right FPC cables for any platform. They can be customized to specific lengths and equipped with an external trigger input or flash output upon request.

2. Setting up the hardware

The plugless cable is connected to both the camera and the processor board. No adapter board is required.

3. Installing the drivers

Adapted basic drivers are already available for many boards. We support you with the adaptation for new processor boards.

Standard MIPI CSI-2 Cable with Connector Board for External Triggers

Our FPC cables feature an integrated trigger input and a flash output. We also offer a standard MIPI cable with a connector board that allows for the connection of external triggers and lighting without the need for an additional board or hardware. It is available in a 200 mm length and is compatible with all common processor boards featuring a MIPI CSI-2 interface.

The maximum transfer speed of MIPI CSI-2 depends on the number of data lanes and the processing speed of the embedded processor. With four lanes and a processing speed of 1.5 GBit/s per lane, which can be achieved by most processors, transfer rates of 6 GBit/s are possible. With an 8-bit pixel resolution, this corresponds to 750 MB per second.

VC MIPI® FPC Cables can be used in a temperature range from -20°C to +85°C. They have a bending radius of at least 10 mm; permissible from at least 5 mm distance from the stiffener at the cable ends.

The MIPI interface is not standardized, which is why MIPI cables are available with different connectors.

 

The MIPI CSI-2 interface connection is not standardized, which is why there are MIPI cables with different connectors. MIPI CSI-2 is a standardized protocol for data transfer between cameras and processors. Most common processors support the interface, but some embedded processor boards use different connectors. They differ in the number of transmission lanes and cable pins used. VC offers suitable MIPI camera cables for all processor platforms and boards.

Vision Components offers special repeater boards to enable MIPI camera cables longer than 30 cm. Alternatively, micro-coax cables can be used.
